I have recently migrated to a self-hosted site and there have been some glitches! Of course, eh, especially for a newb, like me!
I have fixed all of the broken links, but some other things you will notice are:
- a new theme, do you like it?
- my feature images were lost, these are my next priority to fix!
- any galleries within posts were lost
- I lost my page organization, so that needs to be redone… but, it needed re-doing anyway, so there’s the kick in the pants I needed!
It’s been a bit of a learning curve! Finding a host (affiliate link). Transferring domains. Just navigating the interwebs and lingo, in general! Uploading media to my self-hosted site wasn’t going smoothly, until I figured out that it worked much better from my hard drive than the cloud. And, I have been exploring the world of monetization, in particular, Google AdSense.
But, here I am, alive, and feeling hopeful that I am actually going to come out on the other side of this alright. I also have a lot of good posts brewing in my brain and look forward to being able to just allocate time to writing instead of ‘house cleaning’.
I think I like my new theme! I am sad to see the old one go, it just didn’t quite have the flexibility that I was looking for, with respect to layout. There are some other great themes out there that I would like to try, to, but they cost money so I am going to ride it out with this free one for now and see where all this goes…
I feel that this is a good time to go through this change. Fall is coming, school is starting (kindergarten, gulp!), and I think that I have finally found my niche for writing. I’ve called this a ‘modern active living blog’ which I still think is accurate, but I find that I gravitate towards writing about food a lot as it is such a pillar that our days rest on, namely that it is the fuel that energizes our bodies and helps the kids grow. So, my ‘niche’ is more ‘what and how we fuel our bodies to do what we want’. The things we want to do are move, create, explore, roam, garden, and just be. I don’t think that I have articulated that very well, but I have a toddler who is asking for help with magnets who should be having stories and getting sleepy, so I am a bit distracted and need to mull it over some more to better express how I feel.
In short, I will mostly write recipe posts, but they won’t be “foodie” type posts, the preamble will be anecdotal, either recounting an experience we had (simple or adventurous) or reflecting on what kind of food we needed to keep moving (eg. snacks for hiking or being out and about with the kids). Clear as mud? I hope that it at least inspires you to keep visiting the blog, even if Google hasn’t completely crawled the new pages and you are stuck getting https links, when the new site is http! Eek…
Thank you so much for your patience! Please don’t hesitate to contact me or comment below if you have any questions or notice anything amiss, or hey, if you have any ideas to share! And, Facebook and Instagram are still running smoothly, without any hiccups.
In other news, we’ve been eating a lot of zucchini lately…
